Nigeria Tops The Medal Table…Really?

August 12, 2012

“And Nigeria wins the gold medal”, then our athlete stands on the podium while the national anthem is played. I am sure a lot of Nigerians have imagined this scenario but it seems its only going to be a dream. No gold, silver or even bronze medal! I am still searching for our flag on the medals table and I can’t see the green, white and green. Meanwhile, a friend said i should check the back of the table. Lol!

Just imagine, if Usain Bolt was a country alone, he would be ahead of Nigeria on the medals table considering Nigeria has not won any medal but in this case, Nigeria isn’t on the table in the first place. Maybe the bottle of coca-cola i took is making me tipsy and well…my vision is so blurred that I’m missing our flag on the table.

Nonetheless, we are still giants of Africa right? *rme*. This reminds me of a cliché Nigerians are so used to, “e get one guy for my village wey run pass Usain bolt, him name na akpan”. “E get one guy for my village sef wey swim pass Michael Phelps”. “The guy na fish inside water, him name na Akpos. Yes Akpos! Him dey sleep inside water for two weeks”. Or better still, you would hear that Usain Bolt is a Nigerian, direct descendant of the alaafin of Oyo, whose grandparents where fishermen in calabar but he grew up in kogi state and stayed with his uncle at imo where he learnt trade before leaving for Jamaica at 9yrs! Im sure Michael Phelps is Nigerian too, Lol!

Anyway, our current position at the olympics is an eye sore. A nation of 160million people and we are yet to win a single medal! This only reflects how downtrodden Nigerians have become in all aspects of life with sports not excluded. Our football, once the pride of Africa is a shadow of its former glory. Do not feel down Nigeria, for we shall win gold very soon, when corruption, oil bunkery, kidnapping, sorting, bomb making studies, looting, aristo things and all sorts of vices are introduced to the olympics. Then, our politicians and runs girls would be gold medalists flying the Nigerian flag. Till then, we still hope for a medal at least. If not gold, silver or bronze, at least aluminium or ply wood wont be bad! Hehehe
